Rick's Classical Music Selection Video Links - J.S.Bach

Be patient - this may take a few seconds...

J.S. Bach maybe (attribution disputed), Toccata and Fugue in D minor (BWV565),

J.S. Bach, 1717-23, Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major (BWV1068),

J.S. Bach, 1721, Brandenburg Concerto No.4 - with the intended recorders, not with flutes as it is now often performed (BWV1049),

J.S. Bach, 1717-23, The Double Violin Concerto in D minor (BWV 1043),

Rachel Podger & Andrew Manze version with Baroque violins and a degree of ornamentation which may offend some purists. The three videos are each of the three movements in turn (apologies for the clapping between movements),

Father and son version (David and Igor Oistrakh) recorded in 1961 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This is the same performance I have on vinyl and one I particularly like,

J.S. Bach, 1727-46, The Well-Tempered Clavier, Books 1 and 2 (BWV 244). The first video is an interview with Andras Schiff which is very enlightening

Here are the first 24 preludes/fugues of The Well-Tempered Clavier Book 1 in order. This is a BBC production in which each prelude is introduced by the pianist, which is Andrei Gavrilov for the first 12 and Joanna MacGregor for nos.13 to 24.

And here are the 24 preludes/fugues of The Well-Tempered Clavier Book 2 in order. This is the second part of the same BBC production as above for Book 1. This time featuring Nikolai Demidenko (1 to 12) and Angela Hewitt (13 to 24).

J.S. Bach, 1727-46, St.Matthew Passion (BWV 244). This version uses male countertenors rather than female contraltos/mezzo-sopranos (but with female sopranos). You'll need plenty of time...

J.S. Bach, 1741, The Goldberg Variations - solo piano version (BWV988). I think this is Itzhak Solsky, recorded in Cafe Yuval in Ramat Hasharon, Israel, in 1998...
